Historical Significance

The Lower Gallinas Land Grant holds a rich history as a political subdivision in Gallinas, New Mexico. It represents the legacy of land distribution and community in the region.


In 1952 two men by the name of Fidel Ortega and Felipe Blea signed a deed that gave precinct 35 land to use as needed to survive on and to pass on to their heirs. Currently this land grant is now known as The Lower Gallinas Land Grant La Sierrita-Merced.
